We're starting to see a belief among some online entrepreneurs that MLM opportunities are dead.
The attractive lure of MLM, residual income, is no longer a reality. People are leaving MLM downlines right and left, seeking newer and more profitable opportunities.
Is any of this true? Consider a couple of the basic beliefs here.
- people will continue to seek better deals, and this is only going to get worse
- continuous recruiting will become more necessary in order to keep the numbers up
What's going on here? Modern technologies have changed the face of recruiting for our MLM opportunities, and the odds of maintaining these recruits after they sign up.
Think about how businesses were started and built in the days before the Internet. MLM downlines would be concentrated in local areas, and most recruiting was done face to face. The odds were that you knew your sponsor personally, and had other friends involved as well.
In that environment, you had closer connections because most everyone was local and knew who you were. There was often more of a bond between distributors and the group leaders. Exposure to competing MLM opportunities was minimal.
In MLM today, distributors are exposed to more new opportunities and greater temptation to switch to something else than ever before. It must be considered and dealt with.
Two things to help you address this:
- contact your downline people often, and get to know them and what they are wanting from their business
- help them make money fast
Consider that last point. What do you think is the number one reason people jump from one business to another? I believe it's a lack of making enough money to make it worth it. If you're making respectable money from a business, or at least see your income steadily growing, you won't be tempted to leave so easily.
Here is a tip for success. Help new downline members get trained and into profit quickly. Many MLM opportunities have some sort of "quick start" bonuses for achieving certain goals. Help your team make the most of these and start making decent money right away.
