Once upon a time, we all were very happy adding websites to the Internet. With just a few adjustments we could see our website and our client's website soar in the rankings of the major search engines. Having our website (or websites) listed quickly and showing on the first page of Google wasn't as hard as it is today. Granted, we had our way with the "Meta Tags" and the competition was not so bad.

This is all part of the past now. Not only Google, but all the other major search engines (and few small ones) found ways to stop those practices and created new "rules" to be played "by the book" if we want to see our website not only ranking, but also "NOT FALLING" so fast. But I ask myself..."Is there anything from the past that I can implement today to help me with the listings?" And the answer is yes...the TITLE TAG!

Maybe you are asking, "How important is the title of my website?". Very important! After the domain name, the title gives the second piece of information to the search engines regarding what your website is about. If done correctly, your website will be placed in the right niche from the get going.

Let's use as example the keyword "MMA Classes". Do you know by heart any gym that teaches kickboxing classes? If you like the majority, you will use one the Search Engines (Google, Yahoo, etc) to find a club or school, right?

If you own one MMA school, your first question now would be, "What is the title of my website?" Or " Am I promoting my name or the services I offer (your keywords)?".

Let's go back to MMA classes (you can use your own products and services as example ), type it into the search box...do you see your website on the first page now? The answer more likely to come up is...no! Do you get it now?

This is a very common mistake. Some people believe that the search engine will "place" you right because they "know" what your website is about. I am sorry but it doesn't work this way. Neither that you will get visitors just because you have a website.

Other very interesting detail for you, be sure to name the web page according to the keywords you want THAT PAGE to rank high for! One thing to remember...search engines rank PAGES not WEBSITES! If you need any help placing your website at the top of rankings, please, let me know and I will help you to get it on the first page of Google, Yahoo and Bing.
